Description

These ridged masks, or Kifwebe, originate from the Songye people of the southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These types of masks were used to mark important periods of transition and social transformation, appearing at the death of a chief or other eminent person, or when a person assumed an important political title.

It is made of carved wood, with carvings and pigments.
