This elegantly sculpted female ancestral figure it originates from the Suku people in the Lake Tanganyika region, in the southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This sculpture incorporates the female ancestor of a Suku ruler and was passed down through the family. The powers of the figure were used in several ways: to protect the sick from the forces of evil, against unwanted intruders from the village and to ascertain the guilt, or not, of a defendant.
It is made of wood carved with some notches.
