Senufo knights are associated with a status. Figures like this knight, aim to represent ancestors with some degree of prestige on a horse.

Some figures of Senufo knights, were used during the divination ritual called Sando to carry messages to the spirit world.

During the divination ritual ( Sando), the diviner, most of the time a woman, threw a set of cowry shells and interpreted them. She then repeated the message to the assembled figures known as Tyeli (or Tyele) so that they could take her to the spirits and return with an answer to the customer.

It is made of carved wood.
